Bagworms: What To Watch Out For

March 31, 2017 - Scott's Exterior Maintenance

We were out yesterday and noticed a bagworm infestation on a customer's Arborvitae, so I wanted to make a mention of these pests if you notice their characteristic "bags" hanging on your trees.

We typically see these bagworms on evergreens, including Juniper, Arborvitae, and Spruces, but they can also show up on other trees and shrubs as well.

Unfortunately, these often go unnoticed and if left alone, can result in severe damage or death of a tree or shrub. I've seen it many times.

What we're seeing right now are the bags with eggs that have overwintered from last fall. They will hatch and new caterpillars will emerge in June and begin feeding on your trees.

If you notice any of these, please let us know so we can do an assessment and decide on a plan of treatment to save your trees!
